5x80

(2019) '5x80' stems from my microTONE experiments within STEIM. It is a hanging installation, designed as exploded cube with 16 inward-firing speakers on all sides (80 speakers in total). The construction hangs in a hoisting installation with which the visitor can lower the installation around himself. Within the installation there's space for one person, possibly two people. There are five independent audio channels that can be distributed to all 80 loudspeakers using 5 control voltages (single speaker, row, flat, etc.). The 5x80 cube: outside and inside Sensors are placed in the installation that observe the user: position and movements are measured laser technology. This allows a user to interact with the spatially positioned sound and the sound experience therefore depends on the behavior of the user. He's a spectator at the same time and performer and can playfully discover how his behavior influences the result via an algorithm. Other visitors surrounding the installation perceive user behavior as an integral part of work.
